HISTORY TIMELINE

Federated Media was formed in by combining our cluster of radio stations and digital. Below you’ll see some significant events that define Federated Media’s history.

1952


John F. Dille took over responsibility of The Elkhart Truth, which included WTRC (1340am) and ultimately WLTA (100.7).  WLTA changed their call letters to WBYT in 1994 to become B100, Today’s Best and Most Country.

1960's

Federated Media owns WSJV TV in Elkhart, IN (sold in 1974/75) as well as the first cable provider, St Joseph Valley Cable

1970's

Federated Media purchases WMEE (97.3) and WEMF in Ft. Wayne, IN and later acquires WOWO (1190am), WQHK (105.1), WBYR (98.9) and WFWI (92.3).  Federated Media also purchases stations in Cincinnati, Grand Rapids and Tulsa.

1993

Talking Stick purchases WRBR (103.9) in Mishawaka, IN

1996

In anticipation of the FCC Telecommunications bill of 1996 the decision to sell the bigger markets of Cincinnati, Grand Rapids and Tulsa was made to become more focused in the smaller markets central to the corporate office in Elkhart, IN.

1997

Federated Media purchases WAOR (95.3) and WNIL (1680am) in Niles, MI.

2002

Federated Media purchases Wxxx (102.7) of Ligoneer, IN and changes the call letters to WLEG.  Federated Media also purchases WRSW (xxxxam) and WRSW (107.1) of Warsaw, IN subsequently buying and launching a 2nd FM which is WAWC (103.5) today.

2010

Federated Media launches Federated Interactive.

2013-2015

Federated Media sells WNIL (1680am) in 2013 and the 95.7 Frequency to Redeemer Radio, Catholic News Talk.

2013

Federated Media becomes one of the first broadcasters to implement Responsive Website Design for all station websites. Click here to read the article.

2014


WOWO (1190am)
wins the coveted NAB Marconi Award for medium market.

 

 

Federated Interactive changes their name to Federated Digital Solutions.

2016

Federated Media sells the Elkhart Truth.

2017

Federated Media becomes first broadcaster to build Alexa skills launching B100 Alexa skill in Spring of 2017. Article 1Article 2

 

Federated Media buys WUBU of South Bend, IN and changes WAOR format to Froggy.

2018


WOWO (1190am)
wins the coveted NAB Service to America Award for their annual fundraiser, Penny Pitch.
