Federated Media has a job opening  for Director of Information Technology.  Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this position will work with corporate and market management teams to provide the hardware, software, and voice and data bandwidth resources necessary to the broadcast, online and business operations of our companies.

Job Duties:

  • Provides input for strategic direction of the IT department
  • In conjunction with Director of Engineering, develops, deploys and modifies  corporate IT policies
  • Analyzes computing needs to determine hardware, software and system functional specifications, and makes decisions regarding systems and inventory
  • Develops IT business plans and budget plans that support both short and long-term company objectives
  • Together with corporate management and Market IT/engineering managers,  develops annual IT capital expenditure plans
  • Works with Market IT/Engineering staff to manage servers and network infrastructure
  • Provides desktop support to end users
  • Works with corporate managers and Market staff to plan and implement system conversions and upgrades
  • Monitors network security, implementing and adjusting security plans to protect the integrity of company systems and data
  • Develops disaster recovery/business continuity plans, including monitoring of backup status of all mission critical data systems
  • Monitors industry trends and best practices and makes recommendations regarding new technologies


  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft desktop operating  systems and  server systems
  • Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP LAN, WAN and Internet networking
  • Familiar with industry-specific software platforms (traffic and scheduling, accounting, audio playback automation, stream encoding/ad insertion, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Linux open-source server and desktop systems a plus
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Ability to manage staff and contractors at remote locations
  • Ability to travel and work flexible schedules
  • Prior project management experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience in broadcast and/or digital media or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study, Cisco certification and/or MCSE preferred

The Planet Radio Internship Program

The challenge in the radio business is creativity, organization and innovation. Planet Radio’s internships are designed to be flexible, and will vary with season and with the level of station activity. Interns will be required to offer their ideas and take ownership of their position with the knowledge that he or she represents the radio station at all times.

The Intern will be part of the staff at the station’s events and will be expected to take part in the various activities, as needed.  Hours vary from week to week and may include evenings and weekends.  The estimated number of hours we expect the Intern to work is 12-15 per week. You must be currently enrolled in school and earning educational credit to qualify for the program.
